Foot Physical Therapy

FOOT PHYSICAL THERAPY

Physical therapy of the foot and ankle area can provide relief for many different types of injuries and conditions. It is used to correct anatomical problems, posture, and reduce pain. Not every problem can be resolved with physical therapy; however, physicians will often recommend it first to see how much relief can be achieved prior to recommending surgery.

Foot and ankle injuries are quite common especially in the cold winter months when people are walking or exercising amid ice and snow. Sport injuries affect people of all ages and the elderly are more prone to injury due to underlying physical conditions.

At Mayfair Foot Care, we will prescribe a physical therapy treatment based on the type of problem and health of the patient. Plantar fasciitis, turf toe and stress fractures are common problems that can be vastly improved with foot and ankle physical therapy. The exercises we recommend will aim to improve mobility, range of motion, increase muscle strength, improve posture, and assist with coordination. There are often exercises that can be performed from the comfort of your own home in combination with your in-office treatment.

We commonly treat the following conditions with physical therapy:

  • Ankle sprains
  • Muscle strains
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Broken and fractured bones
  • Tendinitis
  • Bone spurs

We may also recommend you use orthotics in tandem with your physical therapy course. Each person’s situation is unique and a course of action can only be prescribed following a thorough evaluation.

Your first step towards healing is speaking with your doctor. Don’t live with pain out of fear of surgery. Most foot and ankle pain can be improved with some form of physical therapy.
